Cheveley Park Stakes - 27th September, 2014

Richard Hannon's Tiggy Wiggy was a sensational winner of the Lowther Stakes at York's Ebor Festival last month and now the rapid filly will look to continue on an upward curve on Saturday afternoon at the Cambridgeshire meeting by storming to glory in the Cheveley Park Stakes.

Her raw speed has seen her propel into the limelight throughout her career and she is fast becoming one of the speediest juveniles around and she will look to bag Group 1 glory at the weekend and will be sent off a red-hot favourite for this race, which has often thrown up clues for the 1000 Guineas next season.

Eddie Lynam's Anthem Alexander managed to edge out Tiggy Wiggy when the pair met in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot earlier this year, but the Irish raider was beaten comfortably in that aforementioned Lowther and will need to improve to topple the Hannon hotpot at Flat HQ.

High Celebrity will add a European feel to the 6f contest and the impressive Group 3 winner in France will take her place in the field for Andre Fabre and could well land a significant blow in this event, whilst John Gosden's Tendu caught the eye when winning at Kempton last time out, but this is a gargantuan step up and along with the likes of Terror and Arabian Queen will need career bests to feature.

Cheveley Park Stakes History

The Cheveley Park Stakes is a Group One race run on Newmarket's Rowley Mile course over six furlongs for fillies aged two years old.

Established in 1899 the Cheveley Park Stakes was named after the Newmarket Estate that is now one of the most successful studs in UK racing which produce some top quality racehorses.

Historically scheduled towards the end of the flat racing calendar the Cheveley Park Stakes is a perfect race for trainers to check their fillies Classic credentials. A lot of runners in the Cheveley Park Stakes tend to gain an entry for the 1000 Guineas of the beginning of the following season and with both races at Newmarket it is the ideal prep run for the fillies Classic the following year.

First achieved in the early 1900s by Pretty Polly, the Cheveley Park Stakes/1000 Guineas double has become the order of the day for most trainers and the feat was last accomplished by Special Duty, who won the Cheveley Park in 2009 and went on to Classic glory in 2010.

Not only does the Cheveley Park Stakes provide a great look at future Classic stars it makes up part of Newmarket's three-day Cambridgeshire meeting which attracts huge crowds.
