Warwick Racecourse

Warwick racecourse is one of the oldest courses in the United Kingdom, just a quarter a mile walk away from the town centre. It has hosted meetings which date back to 1694 but the first stand was not completed until 1809. Warwick is credited with holding the first ever jump meeting which has given us the National Hunt as we know and love today.

The course is used for flat and national hunt racing it is a wide left handed course. On this course speed is preferred to stamina to cope with the sharpness of the course In races of 5 or 6 furlongs there is a bias towards low numbers.

The course holds 25 race meetings that are held throughout the year. The principal meeting that is held here is Kingmaker Day which hosts the Totesport Kingmaker Novices' Chase, this is a grade 2 race that is held annually in February. Another key race is the Eternal Stakes which is held in June.

Due to its central location in England it is frequented by trainers from all over the country, the Wiltshire based trainer Richard Hannon is one of the top trainers at this course. The top two jockeys who at the course are Eddie Ahern and Jamie Spencer.
