Thirsk Racecourse is a flat racing course that is situated in the small North Yorkshire market town of Thirsk.
The course itself is a left handed oval that is a 1 mile and 2 furlongs in circumference with a finishing straight of 3 furlongs and 6 furlong chute.
Racing takes place from April through to September and there are generally around 13 meetings per year here. Principal races here are the Thirsk Hunt Cup held in May and in June there is the European Breeders' Fund Fillies' Handicap.
The effect on the draw here is that high numbers are best in sprints when the ground is firm but low numbers are preferred on good to soft.
With quite a few northern based trainers nearby it is no surprise to see that they are the more promoted winners here. Dandy Nicholls and Tim Easterby have both done well here in recent seasons. The top two jockeys here are Phillip Makin and David Allan.
