Taunton Racecourse

Located in the rural village of Orchard Portman the course was opened in 1927 and was the last racecourse to be opened in England (that is still open if you do not count the failed Great Leighs). The national hunt course is right handed, oval shaped that consists of tight bends and two wide straights.

The course holds race meetings from January through to May then takes a break from racing until October when the racing continues until the end of the year. Stand out events begin in January with the Carlsberg UK Handicap Hurdle and in November there is the Audrey Chudleigh Memorial Handicap Hurdle.

With some of the best trainers in the country located nearby the course is often frequented by their top horses, trainers that do well consistently here are Paul Nicholls, Philip Hobbs and David Pipe who continues the family trade established by his father Martin. The top jockeys at this course are Ruby Walsh and Sam Thomas.
