The course is based in the Surrey town of Esher which is in London’s outer suburbs. It has spectacular views of several London landmarks which include Wembley Stadium, Canary Wharf and the London Eye. The course plays host to flat and national hunt racing and it is one of the premier dual purpose tracks in the United Kingdom.
The racecourse holds 26 race meetings throughout the year all of which are to a high standard. The standout meeting of the flat season here is the Coral Eclipse day held in July which features the Group One Eclipse Stakes which has a prize purse of £500,000. For national hunt racing key events are the Bet 365 Gold Cup in April and the Tingle Creek Chase in December.
As well as a racecourse Sandown several other facilities that include an 18 hole golf course, a dry ski slope and the venue also concerts in its ground. Acts that have appeared here in recent years include Westlife, Boyzone and Madness.
On the 5 furlong course high numbers are favoured when the field has 12 or more runners.
