Plumpton is one of the smaller national hunt race courses in England. It is a left handed circuit that runs in at just over a mile, the hurdle course is ran on the outside of the chase course with both tracks sharing an uphill finish.
The racecourse holds race meetings all year round with principal the meeting being the Sussex National Raceday that is held in early January which hosts the At The Races Sussex National Handicap Chase which can be used to view some potential Aintree Grand National Runners.
Plumpton was the venue for Tony McCoy when he rode his 3000th winner on February 9th 2009 on the Nicky Henderson trained Restelss D’Artaix.
As with many other racecourses to supplement its main income it hosts events such as weddings and car boot sales. One of the novel ideas in place at Kempton has been to screen drive in movies which has proved to be very successful.
Jamie Moore and Richard Johnson are the prominent jockeys at this course with Gary Moorse stables being in nearby Lower Beeding its not a surprise to see him doing well here along with fellow local trainer Jim Best from Lewes.
