Newcastle Racecourse is based at Gosforth Park which is just 3 miles away from the hustle and bustle of Newcastle city centre. It is a left handed course that has is triangle shaped with a straight course that is used for distances of up to a mile and track hosts both flat and National Hunt racing.
The racecourse hosts 30 race meetings throughout the year with stand out events being the Northumberland Plate which is held annually in June which is one of the richest two mile handicaps in the world paying out in the region of £180,000. In jumping the main event is the Fighting Fifth Hurdle which attracts horses from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland.
There is a draw stall advantage in straight races when the going is set to good or faster with high numbers being more favourable. If the ground is set to soft or heavy then opt for a low number.
Paul Hanagan and Philip Makin both do well at this course. Local trainer Michael Dods who is based out of Denton in County Durham is one of the top trainers at this course along with Richard Fahey who is just a couple of hours away in Musley Bank in North Yorkshire.
