Musselburgh Racecourse

Located in East Lothian and the at the gateway to Edinburgh the course was originally opened in 1816 and is a right handed national hunt course that is ten furlongs and oval in shape. It has some of the best horse racing facilities in Scotland and has been awarded the Visit Scotland 5 Star Visitor Attraction status since 2006

The course at Musselburgh hosts both flat racing and national hunt meetings and holds 24 race meetings throughout the year. It is even known to host harness meetings during the summer months. The standout events come in April with the Easter weekend races which include the Musselburgh Gold Cup and in June on the Edinburgh Cup Race day which has the Edinburgh Cup Heritage Handicap and the Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap Stakes.

Located in the centre of the course is a 9 hole golf course which was originally founded in 1774 as the Musselburgh Golf Club.

Jockeys that do particularly well here are Tom Eaves and Paul Hanagan. With trainer Jim Goldie having stables nearby in Uplawmoor it is therefore no real surprise to see that this is one of his favoured tracks.

There is only a draw bias here during 5 furlong races when the going goes soft if favours runners that draw a low number.
