Chester Racecourse

Chester Racecourse is also known as The Roodee and is also the oldest racecourse that is still in use in England, with reports of racing dating back to the early 16th Century. It is also one of the shortest and tightest left hand courses in England coming in at just over a mile.

Racing begins at Chester in May with the three day May Festival which includes the Chester Cup and the Betfair Huxley Stakes, after that there are a further 11 days of racing to take the total of race days to 14.  Other key races are the Totepool City Plate and Chester Stakes which is part of the Totesport Summer Festival in August.

There is a draw advantage with runners wanting to be drawn low in sprints. If your horse is not drawn in stalls number 1-6 then they will have their work cut out for them.

The course at Chester has been named the course of the year for 7 years in succession by members of The Racegoers Club. The top trainer at this course is Barry Hills with the top jockey of the course being Franny Norton.
