Queen Mother Champion Chase market leaders, Sizing Europe and Big Zeb are set to lock horns before the Cheltenham Festival Grade One contest as both are entered to run in Sunday's Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown.
The last two winners of the 2m chasing crown are being primed for this weekend and both will be hoping to use the contest as a springboard to the Festival, which is under seven weeks away.
Sizing Europe is currently heading the ante-post betting for the Champion Chase on March 15 after storming to victory in the contest 12 months ago and Henry De Bromhead's stable star looks to be in top class form going into the clash of the titans on Sunday.
A seven length winner of the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown Park, the ten-year-old oozed class as he sauntered to an impressive success over Kauto Stone in the Grade One contest and he will be looking to emulate that performance in what looks a two-horse contest.
Big Zeb may be coming into the twilight of his career, but the eleven-year-old showed he still has top class credentials when propelling past the classy Noble Prince late on in the Dial-a-Bet Chase over the Christmas period.
The 2010 Champion Chase winner is currently trading around 9/2 second favourite for the Cheltenham Blue Riband contest and trainer Colm Murphy will be hoping he can reverse the form with Sizing Europe on their Festival form from last year and notch up another top level success in what is already a star-studded career.
Both trainers have highlighted their doubts about the ground and with conditions likely to be testing in the Emerald Isle it will definitely be a dour stamina test, but with the opposition looking fairly weak with only Scotsirish and Lastoftheleaders the only two likely challengers for the contest, it is all set to be a fascinating duel for the crown.
And no doubt punters will benefit from the Cheltenham Festival preamble where a firm favourite for the Champion Chase is almost certainly going to be unearthed.
