Big Buck's To Return In Long Distance Hurdle

Big Buck's will make his seasonal reappearance in Saturday's Long Distance Hurdle as yet again he kicks off another season over timber at Newbury's Hennessy Gold Cup meeting and the Paul Nicholls-trained staying phenomenon tops a list of eight entries received for the Grade One renewal.

A winner of the race in 2009, 2010 and 2011 the Ditcheat inmate has been a regular at this meeting and used it as a springboard to the rest of the season and no doubt this year will be no different as he looks to bag an unprecedented fifth World Hurdle crown at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Nicholls and owner Andy Stewart elected to avoid last weekend's Fixed Brush Handicap Hurdle at Haydock Park and stay down the tried and tested route and the bookmakers are sure to be running scared from the nine-year-old who will be looking to continue on a winning streak that has last four years and 17 races.

Already a short-priced favourite for the World Hurdle, Big Buck's will look to cement his place at the head of that ante-post market and he appears to have limited oppostion with Alan King's Smad Place one of the more intriguing entries of the octet.

Third in last year's World Hurdle, King's raider could well still be on the upgrade, but will need to bounce back from a rather lacklustre performance in the John Smith's Hurdle at Wetherby at the start of the month.  However, he showed at Cheltenham that on his day he could at least stretch Big Buck's a little and he could be the main danger.

Of th others, the progressive Maggio may take his chance as he looks to gain a third win on the bounce, but this is a whole new divison, whilst Five Dream could team up with stablemate Big Buck's, whilst Crack Away Jack and Reve De Sivola are another brace of potential runners.
