Grands Crus Could Head For Newbury's Super Saturday Meeting

Grands Crus has been handed an entry for Newbury's Betfair. Don't Settle For Less Novices' Chase on Saturday and could use the race as his primary springboard to the Cheltenham Festival next month.

David Pipe's stable star has been simply glorious since making the transition to the larger obstacles this campaign, demolishing to top quality rivals in the process and the Pond House grey could line up in the 3m novice chase on Newbury's Super Saturday to get him tuned up for Prestbury Park.

Instantly slashed to a short-priced favourite for the RSA Chase after the 2011 World Hurdle runner-up annihilated the classy duo of Bobs Worth and Silviniaco Conti in the Feltham Novices' Chase on Boxing Day, there have been murmurings round the racing game for weeks that he could be handed a pop at the Cheltenham Gold Cup on March 16.

He currently sits behind Long Run and Kauto Star in the betting for the Gold Cup, but Saturday's performance is surely going to be an informative one, and if he can emulate that Kempton Park peformance, the Gold Cup is certain to be a major possibility for the seven-year-old.

Sure to scare most of his rivals off, Paul Nicholls has already eluded that his classy duo of Join Together and Silviniaco Conti, who are both in the higher echelons of the RSA betting, may bypass a clash with Grands Crus and could be aimed at the Reynoldstown Chase later on in the month to avoid a tough race against the exciting Pipe novice.

Nicky Henderson's Mossley was well beaten by Join Together at Cheltenham's International meeting and could look for this contest as a stepping stone to Cheltenham, whilst the in-form Alan King could saddle Invictus, who was in scintillating form at the start of the season.

However, there will be one horse that everyone will want to see come the weekend and if Newbury can avoid an untimely abandonment, then it could shed some light on what race Grands Crus is going to run in at the Cheltenham Festival.
