Champagne Fever

Age: 6

Trainer: Willie Mullins

Notable Race Wins:-

Champion Bumper: 2012

Champion I.N.H Flat Race: 2012

Champagne Fever had originally been earmarked to embark on a novice chasing career, but he is now likely to stay over hurdles for the 2012/2013 campaign and the main port of call at the Cheltenham Festival could be the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle.

An impressive winner of the Champion Bumper at the 2012 Cheltenham Festival, the Willie Mullins-trained raider has always looked a chaser in the making, with his big frame and the Co. Carlow handler was quick to broadcast his wishes to bypass a hurdling career and just step straight up to the larger obstacles.

His win in the Champion I.N.H Flat Race at the Punchestown Festival continued his rise up the bumper ranks and if Mullins can get him to perform as admirably over fences then he could well be a major contender for the RSA Chase come March.

Having won over 2m in the Champion Bumper, the grey son of Stowaway emphasised his class as he has always looked a potential staying prospect and that's why he will be a major player in the novice hurdling division and is one to watch in Ireland before heading over to the 2013 Cheltenham Festival.

Form For 2012/2013 Season

  • 18/11/12 - I.N.H Stallion Owners E.B.F Maiden Hurdle - Cork (1st of 22 - SP 1/8 Fav) - Willie Mullins would've been pleased with Champagne Fever's debut over timber as he produced a polished jumping display in what was a facile success.  Sent off a short-prcied favourite, he quickly went to the front and duly pulled clear in the closing stages to win by five lengths.
  • 02/12/12 - Royal Bond Novice Hurdle - Cork (2nd of 6 - SP 11/8 Fav) - Champagne Fever lost his unbeaten tag when outsprinted by the classy Jezki in the Grade One Royal Bond Novice Hurdle, but he wasn't disgraced when finishing second to Jessica Harrington's improving star.  He was sent to the front from the flag fall once again, but just couldn't quicken up in the closing stages and was forced to settle for second place, but still appears a potential class act.
