BBC Racing

Even though the frequency of horse racing on the BBC has declined in recent years it still provides viewers with broadcasts from some of the top meetings throughout the season.

The Grand National, Epsom Derby and Royal Ascot are still shown on the Beeb and with their in-depth look at the races it still holds a place close to racing's heart.

The number may have diminished of late, but when they provide viewers with live action they still do a top notch job with the help of some well known horse racing presenters.  Hosted by Clare Balding the live action is summarised by an array of pundits including the excitable Willie Carson and ex-flat jockey Kevin Darley.

Very similar to Channel Four racing, the BBC usually have John Parrott and colourful ex-bookmaker Gary Wiltshire stationed in the betting jungle to unearth any betting news that may be taking place.

Whilst they search for the latest betting news Balding and an array of guests will marshal the paddock looking at the horses on parade, whilst gaining interviews with jockeys and trainers to give another angle on proceedings.

Not only do they offer a succinct preview of the races, but an in-depth analysis of the race just run to allow viewers to see how the race unfolded.

BBC horse racing has had some broadcasting legends in its time including the great Peter O'Sullevan, who commentated for decades on the channel, whilst host Julian Wilson was an integral part of the team until he retired in 1997.
