Flat Eyecatchers For August

As the flat season continues to carry on at full speed there are still a number of horses catching eye and could be worth following until the end of the flat season.

Saddler's Rock

Turning the form around with Ascot Gold Cup winner Colour Vison, Saddler's Rock showed he was a real classy stayer when bagging victory in the Goodwood Cup at the Glorious meeting at the start of the season and he could well be a potential star of the future and is worth looking out for on British Champions Day.

Sir Mark Prescott's Motivado showed a dashing turn of foot in a competitive handicap at Glorious Goodwood and immediately propelled himself into the head of the betting for the Ebor Handicap at the Ebor Festival at the end of August.

He will carry an attractive weight in that contest, which is one of the many highlights for the York spectacle and if he can build on that fine effort on the Sussex Downs must come into the reckoning for what will be a cracking renewal of Europe's richest flat handicap.

Mount Athos

Luca Cumani's Mount Athos made a huge step up when storming to a superb victory in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury and he will be looking to use it as a springboard to glory in the Melbourne Cup at the end of the season.

Travelling well from the outset, he was sent to win the race from two furlongs out and he duly picked up 2011 St Leger winner with aplomb and then quickened in taking fashion to secure his third win on the bounce to continue on his meteroic rise up the ratings.
