Albertas Run

Age: 11

Trainer: Jonjo O'Neill

Notable Race Wins:-

RSA Chase: 2008

Amlin 1965 Chase: 2008

Ryanair Chase: 2009, 2010

Melling Chase: 2010

Old Roan Chase: 2011

Albertas Run may be coming into the twilight of his career, but he is certrainly still a horse to keep an eye of as he looks to bag more Grade One glory in the 2011/2012 national hunt season.

A very smart novice, Albertas Run was a classy winner of the 2008 RSA Chase and then returned to the Cheltenham Festival in 2009 and 2010 lifting the coveted Ryanair Chase trophy to secure three wins in as many festivals at Prestbury Park.

Now at the age of ten, the Jonjo O'Neill inmate is all set to embark on another season with ultimately the Ryanair Chase the main aim and who's to say that he will not return firing on all cylinders for the contest as he looks to bag an unprecedented fourth win at the Cheltenham Festival.

After venturing to the festival on the back of some sub-standard performances, Albertas Run certainly upped his game for the contest, so don't be too disheartened if he heads to Cheltenham in relatively poor form as he has already shown he can pull it out the bag when it's needed.

He is also likely to head to Aintree at the end of the season as he looks to bag the honours in the Melling Chase, a race he won in 2010.  Finishing second to the classy Master Minded in last year's event it could be that the Nicholls inmate bypasses it this campaign as he starts a possible career over the longer distances, so Albertas Run is certainly a contender for that Grade One contest on Merseyside.

Potential Races for 2011/2012 Season

Ryanair Chase

Melling Chase

Form for 2011/2012 Season

  • 22/10/11 - Old Roan Chase - Aintree (1st of 3 - SP 5/2) - A terrific start to the season, Albertas Run was a classy lead-all-the-way winner of the Old Roan Chase beating Pure Faith by a length and Master Minded by a further seven.
  • 15/03/12 - Ryanair Chase - Cheltenham (2nd of 12 - SP 10/1) - Bidding for his third consecutive Ryanair Chase, Albertas Run headed into the contest off the back off a fairly length layoff, but Jonjo O'Neill's raider produced a terrific performance to finish second in the Grade One contest.  Jumping the last alongside Riverside Theatre and Medermit, the Jackdaws Castle inmate just got headed by the former in an absolute thriller.
